Huge List Of Blog Directories Sorted By Alexa Ranking
Posted by
Daryl W.T. Lau
I have covered previously on the importance of submitting our blogs to directories. As mentioned, building links from directories will increase our blog’s link popularity, gain direct traffic and more importantly improve our search engine rankings.
Unfortunately many directory lists available online comprises of the general ones so I shall be listing only Blog Directories instead based on their respective Alexa ranking with their Pagerank mentioned as well. Do bear in mind there are a lot more out there I’m sure but this list of those ranked up to a little over 1 million on Alexa will do more for traffic referrals I feel. Read the rest of this entry »

MSN Fights Back With Revamped Live Search

Since walking away from their bid for Yahoo, MSN has launched an offensive battle to capture a larger slice of the search engine market with their recently revamped Live Search. I will not dwell too deeply into this as you can easily find reviews from Tech related sites or blogs with a simple search.
A search engine success depends very much on it’s relevancy of the results and thus far I find Live Search to be quite satisfactory although they lack the huge index size of Google. On a personal note though, I do really love their unique Image and Video search as compared to Google and Yahoo.

More importantly I’ve been attentively tracking my search engine referrals on this blog and surprisingly for this month, MSN referrals have improved by an estimated 250% based on the chart below:

The May figures shown is based on the data captured till yesterday which is only 8 days and if the trend remains, it should hit over 500 referrals by the end of the month. Knowing how ambitious the people over at Microsoft are, I would expect these numbers to further improve in future months.
Another point to share is that I’ve noticed my new blog posts seem to get indexed over at MSN Live Search much faster than Google. Reason being MSN placed high importance on frequently updated pages as confirmed by their guidelines for successful indexing.

So I guess it’s time to place some of our SEO efforts towards MSN Live Search cause that extra exposure overtime might turn out to be worthwhile. A great article by Site Reference called “Optimizing for MSN: Is it worth the effort?” is a good place to understand the basics.

Women Bloggers Advertising Network And Community
Posted by
Daryl W.T. Lau
A prominent community for women bloggers called Blogher.com have been around for several years now and they are still growing strong. Although I am unable to share intimate details for obvious reasons, I can confidently say that from my experience browsing through several blogs who are members of Blogher shows just how close knitted they truly are.
Plenty of community activities are promoted such as conferences, podcasts, forums and themed charities. All you have to do is register yourself, list your blog and participate actively in the community after setting up your profile.
Since women are widely considered to be a high online spender, it makes perfect sense to work together to harness this powerful demographics and allow their female members access to advertisers who finds tremendous value in reaching out to their respective readers. All this is done via their BlogHerAds.com website.
Unfortunately at this time they are no longer accepting new applications but you may add your email to be informed of their reopening date. With a readership of over 8 million unique women each month across their network, it is easy to envision why advertisers would be keen to use BlogHerAds especially shopping related websites.
At the end of the day even if the advertising network is unavailable, the BlogHer community will greatly benefit any aspiring female bloggers.
